Consultations are by appointment and can be booked in person at the surgery, online by following the link at the top of this page (you will need a username and password which is available from reception) or over the telephone during opening hours.
At Mulberry House there is a handrail for ease of access to the front door and a bell to summon help if needed. A portable ramp is available for wheelchair access; please let us know when booking your appointment if you will need it.
Routine appointments are can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance either by telephoning reception or via Systmonline, if you have access.
Please note that the current wait for a routine GP appointment is 3 weeks.
Urgent on the Day
If you feel that you need to be seen by a GP urgently, please telephone the surgery at 8am. The receptionist will ask you for a brief description of the problem to ensure you are directed to the best possible clinician. If there are no appointments available, you may be offered an appointment at one of the city hubs.
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor.
Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.
Cancellations & Reminders
Cancel an Appointment
It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.
Text Reminder Service
We have a texting service which allows you to recieve confirmation and reminders about your appointments.
To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.
Late For Your Appointment
Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.
If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and she will arrange this for you.
The HUB - GP/Nurse Appointments
You may have heard us talk about appointment at the HUB if you have called for an appointment at the surgery.
What is this?
Southampton GPs introduced a new initiative a little while ago now to provide patients access to medical help from 8am to 8pm every weekday (including bank holidays) and 8am to 4pm on Saturday and 8am to 2pm on Sunday.
Southampton Primary Care Ltd (which is owned by all Southampton GP practices) has been set up to provide these appointments, known as 'THE HUB' and is an important part of the practices resource to help provide appointments to our patient population.
Who can use these appointments?
As a registered patient at Mulberry Surgery, we can book an appointment with a doctor or nurse for you. You may find it more convenient to ask for a HUB appointment especially if you work or can only see a GP or nurse at the weekend.

There are six HUBS throughout the city who offer these appointments, including your practice here.

How do I book?
Our reception staff can book these for you, just phone reception. Also if you phone NHS 111 (when we are closed), then you could be offered a HUB appointment if you need to be seen by a GP or nurse on that day. Remember calling NHS 111 is free to phone and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so you may not need to wait until 8am on Monday morning if you are needing medical attention. over the weekend.
The staff at the HUB's, including the clinical staff, are employed by Southampton Primary Care Ltd.
Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:00.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You may also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years
Private Medical Examinations
Medical examinations for special purposes such as pre-employment, fitness to travel, elderly drivers, fitness to undertake sports etc., will require longer than a routine appointment.
These examinations do not form part of NHS Services, you will be charged for any such examination. Please ask the receptionist for information regarding fees.
